About Our Church
Our Vision & Mission
Our church vision is simple
Sharing Jesus with the world, one relationship at a time.
Our mission is to…
• Love God
• Love People
• Make Disciples of All Nations
Beliefs & Purpose
We cooperate with other Christian churches of all denominations to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. We cooperate with other like-minded Baptist Churches to send missionaries around the world through the “Cooperative Program”.
We believe that each person can speak to God directly, without the need for a preacher or other spiritual church leader. The spiritual leadership of our church has been called to be “servants” to our congregation’s spiritual needs.
We believe that salvation is an individual decision. Church membership, good deeds or any morality will not save one’s soul. Only a public decision and confession of Christ as personal Savior is acceptable to God as evidence of true faith. We encourage every person to make a decision at the conclusion of each worship service. ( John 3:16-18, Romans 10:9, Romans 14:11-12 )
Our Beliefs & Values
Southside Baptist Church is a local, autonomous body of believers. That means that we answer to and are accountable only to God himself. There is no denominational organization who “runs” our church. We make our own decisions under the guidance of the Holy Spirit here in our local congregation.
Jesus
Bible
Eternity
We believe that every true Christian believer immediately goes to be with the Lord at the end of life. (2 Corinthians 5:8, Philippians 1:21-24, 1 John 2:17, John 11:25-26)
We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and is the only way to be saved and go to Heaven. We believe in His life, death, burial, and resurrection from the dead just as the Bible describes
(John 3:16, John 8:12, John 1:14, John 6:35)
Who We Are
Our Team & Leadership
Our goal is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ within our church, community, nation, and world. It is to reflect Christ in all aspects of daily living through an emphasis upon total commitment of life, personality, and possessions to the Lordship of Christ.
Our mission (as stated above) is to love God, love people, and make disciples of all nations.
Phillip Cochran
Pastor
Southside Baptist is enthusiastic to have as our pastor Phillip Cochran. At the time he came to SBC in November of 2020, Pastor Phillip had been in the ministry for 19 years, on staff at several area churches leading in many areas of ministries – youth, missions, and worship leader. Phillip is a graduate of Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree, earned a Master of Science degree from Troy University and a Master of Theological Studies degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Pastor Phillip has been married to Jessica for over a decade, with two biological children – Paxton and Piper. Phillip and his family have opened their hearts and home to four foster children – Noah, Matthew, Faith, and Grace. The Southside Baptist Church family welcomes our Pastor and Family, and invites you to come worship with us.
Frank Thomas
Associate Pastor
Southside Baptist welcomes as our new associate pastor Frank Thomas. Frank is a Brantley County native and also a teacher at Brantley County High School. He’s been involved in ministry in various roles for around 15 years, from lay leader to youth minister to church plant pastor. Married to Susan Carter Thomas for the past 17 “wonderful years” (his description!), they have been blessed with 4 children – Kent, Eli, Read, and Jayle. Frank states that his passion is 1) his family – loving and leading them well, and 2) encouraging and challenging others to grow in their relationship with Christ. The Southside Baptist Church family welcomes our new Associate Pastor and Family, and we hope you’ll come witness and experience God’s working here at SBC!
Jarod Jordon
Family Minister
Jarod Jordan is a Brantley Native and a Graduate of North Greenville University
(Interdisciplinary Studies: Christian Studies & Church Music). Jarod has served in various
ministry roles for 11 years. He has been married to his wife Arnessa for four years. They
have a daughter (Brennan), and a son (Barrett). He is an avid fisherman and loves to work
with his hands. Jarod currently resides in Nahunta Georgia where he serves as Minister to
those 0 – K12 and their families. He is passionate about seeing others come to “know” Jesus
and not simply “know about” Jesus.
Peggy Bowers
Administrative Assistant
Peggy fills many roles in our church family. She works very hard to see the gospel of Jesus Christ spread into the world using the tools God has provided and the gifts in which she is blessed. Not only does she keep our church organized, she is a wonderful gardener and Bible teacher. When not in the church office, she is spending time with her precious grandchildren.
Dylan Sloan
Minister of Music
Originally from Folkston, Georgia, Dylan and his wife, Hannah, and precious daughter Eliza, bring a sweet spirit and love for Christ to our gathering each week. In addition to serving Southside Baptist Church, Dylan serves in the Charlton County School System as middle school band director and assistant high school band director.
